Do you get bored after eating the same thing week after week?
Are you stuck in a recipe rut

Out of that same boredom we finally decided to start a new adventure...a fresh new recipe every Wednesday night! This isn't an elite club or anything. All you have to have is a desire to try new things, an open mind, and some taste buds.

Seeing as to how I have been fairly big my whole life (starting with birth at close to 10 lbs)...I would say I have loved to eat food my whole life.  I think I was blessed to have come from two backgrounds of cooking and getting to experience two different styles of cooking.  The earliest cooking I did that I can remember is fajitas and of course breakfast burritos (a family favorite)...Anyways I have cooked on and off ever since.  I love to grill and that is where my passion remains.  I try to grill anything and everything I can.  I love fresh vegetables and I love just throwing things together.  I never use recipes and I never measure what I put into things, I usually just go by instinct when I make marinates and seasoning.  This new recipe club is a good thing for me because it will 1.) force me to use recipes and measure what I use and 2.) bring me into a new realm of cooking outside the grill and onto the stove top and oven...I am excited for the things I might learn...I also agree that anyone can cook, but rather than reading and studying cooking I think it comes from having a passion for food and flavor.

One day I came home from work, thinking about what to make for dinner and my mind immediately went through the list of 7 or so recipes that I always turn to.  I'm sure many of you face the same thing, you get use to your recipes, you can make them with little to no thought, and you almost always have the ingredients you need on hand.  Well where is the joy in that?  So I presented Aaron (my new roommate) with an idea that would require us to actually put some thought and creativity into what we prepared for dinner.  Stephanie came over later that evening and we invited her to join our food revolution.  We came up with the plan that once a week we would take turns wowing (hopefully) one another with new food creations outside our cooking repertoire, so NEW RECIPE WEDNESDAYs was born...and lucky you, we decided to share our adventure with you.

I have high hopes for this adventure.  At the age of 26, I finally realized that I like vegetables a lot more than I originally thought. So now it's time to find recipes that include more of the colorful, flavorful, nutritiously edible plants that I've grown to love.  I still have issues with a lot of food textures though, so I am also going to work on overcoming that throughout this process.  I love the flavor of things like tomatoes, onions and mushrooms, but the thought of chewing them up in my mouth still makes me a little sick. The other thing I am looking forward to during this experience, is expanding my culinary vocabulary and increasing my cooking artillery.  I love new gadgets and I look forward to buying things like a meat mallet or a zesting tool or who knows what else.  The last thing I hope to accomplish is to further my knowledge of wines.  I want to find new wines to pair with my new meals and I want to take the time to really enjoy eating, drinking and just talking around the dinner table again.

Nothing would be more tiresome than eating and drinking if God had not made them a pleasure as well as a necessity.  ~Voltaire

I believe that I inherited my love for cooking from my mother and grandmother. They are both excellent cooks and I'm glad that I got to be the guinea pig for them many times. It made me enjoy eating almost as much as cooking! I didn't cook much during high school or college but now that I am a working woman I feel naturally drawn to it. I'm hoping to accumulate lots of new favorites with this new adventure! I've realized that things tend to taste better after I spend hours planning, preparing, and cooking a dish. I believe anyone can cook!  Just as long as they try hard, read ahead and follow the instructions, oh--and don't burn the house down!
